| WARNING! | BEFORE installing Tac-Latch II, be certain the rifle and magazine contain no cartridges. Firearms safety is YOUR responsibility. |
| STEP 1 | Remove roll pin from the magazine release button on the rifle using a 3/32" (2-2.5 mm) pin punch or roll pin punch (the latter being the better choice because of its locating nib on the tip). Drive the roll pin out from the BOTTOM to top only with a small hammer. |
| WARNING! | DO NOT attempt to drive the pin from top to bottom or damage to the rifle's finish and mechanism will result. |
| STEP 2 | Remove all of the magazine latch parts and save them for future use. |
| STEP 3 | Remove buttstock assembly and pistol grip housing on rifle to allow easier installation. Place rifle between legs with magazine well facing up and muzzle pointing away from you. It may even help to support muzzle on a table edge. The thumb paddle should extend to the rear of rifle as Illustration #1 shows. |
| STEP 4 | Re-install original spring between the clevis (the pivoting piece that is attached to paddle) and the left wall of the magazine well. The left wall has the rifle's serial number engraved on the outside. |
| STEP 5 | Insert the magazine latch shaft
(original H&K part) through the left wall of the receiver, pushing
it through the spring, Tac-Latch II clevis and left wall of the receiver
as shown in Illustration #2.
It is important during the installation process that all parts be kept in proper axial alignment with the H&K magazine latch shaft. To obtain this alignment it is sometimes necessary to insert the Tac-Latch II magazine release button into left wall of receiver to counteract the clevis's reaction by the spring to cock to one side. Note that the magazine release button has a milled flat which faces front just like the H&K original. |
| STEP 6 | Install the new Tac-Latch II magazine release button (flat side toward the front) on the magazine latch shaft. |
| STEP 7 | Align holes in the button with hole in the shaft. |
| STEP 8 | Insert a NEW roll pin into the BOTTOM hole of magazine release button. A small pair of needle nose pliers may be used to start the pin in the button. |
| STEP 9 | Drive the roll pin through the button and shaft (from bottom to top) using the hammer and 3/32" roll pin punch. The roll pin is installed correctly when it is flush with both sides of the release button. |

| OBJECTIVE | To reload the H&K Rifle as rapidly as possible. |
| STEP 1 | Grasp the empty magazine with the left hand. |
| STEP 2 | Press the Tac-Latch II thumb paddle sideways from left to right with the left thumb as shown in Illustration #1. |
| STEP 3 | Remove empty magazine with left hand and discard it appropriately. |
| STEP 4 | Insert a loaded magazine into the rifle in the normal manner. |
